Tactile Indicator Stud - 316 Stainless Steel | Drill-In | AS/NZS 1428.4.1

The standard drill-in tactile ground surface indicator, machined from 316 marine grade stainless steel. This is the workhorse of the range — specified where the installation is permanent, external, and expected to outlast the surface it's set into.

Fixing: drill-in. The 6mm ribbed stem sets into an 8mm hole with adhesive. The 1mm annulus is deliberate — it gives the adhesive somewhere to key, and the ribbing on the stem locks into the cured bed. Drilling to 6mm and forcing the stem is the most common cause of studs lifting under traffic.

Contrast: bright metallic. The polished stainless head reads strongly against dark substrates — asphalt, charcoal concrete, dark pavers and bluestone. On pale concrete or light sandstone the contrast is weaker, and Black Stainless or the Black Carborundum insert will meet luminance contrast requirements more comfortably.

316 grade is the marine specification — it holds up in coastal, chlorinated and wash-down environments where 304 will eventually tea-stain. Backed by a 5 year warranty.

How many do you need? Tactile indicator studs are installed at 400 units per square metre. A 12.5m² hazard field needs 5,000 studs. Measure the area to be treated, multiply by 400, and add 2–3% for wastage and breakage on site.
