Tactile Indicator Stud - Black Stainless Steel | Drill-In | AS/NZS 1428.4.1

A black-finished 316 stainless stud, drill-in fixing, for installations where the surrounding surface is pale and a bright metallic stud won't give you enough contrast.

Contrast: this is the reason to choose it. On light broom-finish concrete, exposed aggregate, sandstone, pale pavers and light terrazzo, a polished stainless head can sit too close in luminance to the surface around it. The black finish pulls the contrast the other way and reads clearly in daylight and under artificial light. It's the natural counterpart to the bright stainless stud, which does the same job on dark substrates.

Fixing: drill-in. 6mm ribbed stem into an 8mm hole with adhesive, exactly as the standard stainless stud.

Appearance: architects tend to specify this one on merit rather than compliance — the black head disappears into dark stonework and reads as a deliberate detail rather than a bolt-on. It suits considered entries, galleries, hotels and civic buildings where a row of bright studs would look like an afterthought.

How many do you need? Tactile indicator studs are installed at 400 units per square metre. A 12.5m² hazard field needs 5,000 studs. Measure the area to be treated, multiply by 400, and add 2–3% for wastage and breakage on site.
