Choosing the right size
Cone height should match the speed and visibility of the environment:
- 450mm — car parks, warehouses, retail spaces, events and low-speed urban or rural roads.
- 700mm — the most common all-rounder for construction sites, roadworks and higher-traffic areas.
- 900mm — highways and high-speed corridors where maximum visibility is critical.
As a general guide, 450mm cones suit low-speed roads while 700mm and taller are used on highways. Always confirm the correct height and placement against AS 1742.3 and your relevant state road authority before deploying in a traffic control situation.
Reflective collars & night use
For night-time or low-light use, cones should carry a white retro-reflective collar. Under AS 1742.3, a 150mm band is generally specified for 450mm cones and a 250mm band for 700mm and 900mm cones. Our reflective cones ship with the collar already fixed near the top for immediate use.
