Tactile Indicator Stud - Solid Brass | Drill-In | AS/NZS 1428.4.1

Machined from solid brass, not plated. Specified where the tactile indicator has to sit inside an architectural or heritage scheme rather than be tolerated at the edge of one.

Appearance: brass reads warm gold on installation and will develop a patina over time as it oxidises — darker, browner, and progressively higher in contrast against pale stone. Some specifiers want that; others polish it back periodically to hold the original tone. Both are legitimate, and it's worth deciding which before you install, because the two look very different at five years.

Contrast: warm metallic. Works against pale sandstone, marble, terrazzo and light stone. It's a softer contrast than black stainless — on very light surfaces where you need to be certain of meeting luminance contrast requirements, the black stainless stud or the brass with black carborundum insert will give you more headroom.

Fixing: drill-in. 6mm ribbed stem into an 8mm hole with adhesive.

How many do you need? Tactile indicator studs are installed at 400 units per square metre. A 12.5m² hazard field needs 5,000 studs. Measure the area to be treated, multiply by 400, and add 2–3% for wastage and breakage on site.
