Tactile Indicator Stud - Solid Brass with Black Carborundum Insert

Solid brass with a black carborundum insert set into the top face. It resolves the tension between an architectural finish and a compliant, genuinely slip-resistant walking surface.

Why the combination: plain brass is chosen for how it looks, but a polished metal head is not a high-grip surface when wet, and on pale stone it can struggle to deliver enough luminance contrast on its own. Adding the black carborundum insert solves both — the brass body keeps the warm architectural tone, while the black abrasive insert provides the contrast and the grip in the walking plane.

Contrast: the black insert against a warm brass body reads clearly on sandstone, marble, terrazzo and pale stone paving, and unlike plain brass the contrast doesn't shift as the metal patinas.

Fixing: drill-in. 6mm ribbed stem into an 8mm hole with adhesive.

How many do you need? Tactile indicator studs are installed at 400 units per square metre. A 12.5m² hazard field needs 5,000 studs. Measure the area to be treated, multiply by 400, and add 2–3% for wastage and breakage on site.
