Inground Bollard - 140mm

140mm inground bollard, 1600mm overall with 1200mm standing above ground once installed. Powdercoated safety yellow over galvanised steel. No base plate — the bollard is concreted into the ground, so the footing does the work rather than four anchors in a slab.

Inground or surface mount

An inground bollard resists an impact far better than a bolt-down one. A surface mount bollard can only be as strong as the anchors and the slab they are fixed into; an inground bollard is held by a mass of concrete around 400mm of embedded post. The trade-off is the install — you need to excavate, you need concrete, and you need to let it cure. If you can dig, this is the stronger option, and at current pricing it also costs less than the equivalent 140mm surface mount bollard.

• Loading docks and yard entries — where vehicles work close and contact is likely.
• Driveways and gateways — permanent vehicle control on a boundary.
• Carparks and pedestrian thresholds — separates foot traffic from vehicle movement.
• Switchboards, gas meters and exposed plant — protects services that are expensive to repair.

No fixings needed — unlike our surface mount range, this one is set in concrete rather than bolted down. You will need to supply your own concrete.

Installation

1. Check for underground services before you dig. Dial Before You Dig if you are not certain what is below.
2. Excavate a hole deep enough for the 400mm embedment, and wider than the bollard so concrete can surround the post on all sides.
3. Stand the bollard in the hole, brace it and check it for plumb.
4. Pour the concrete, recheck plumb before it goes off, and leave it to cure before the area takes traffic.

Before you order

• This is effectively permanent. Once it is concreted in, removing it means breaking out the footing. If you need to open the access from time to time, look at removable or fold-down bollards instead.
• It is not crash rated and is not tested to PAS 68 or IWA 14. For hostile vehicle mitigation, call us on 1300 291 700.
• You will need concrete, a way to excavate, and time for the footing to cure. If none of that suits the site, the surface mount version bolts down in about 15 minutes.
