A modular rubber speed cushion for local area traffic management on Australian roads, supplied as a complete set. Choose the width your traffic scheme calls for and you receive every corner and mid segment needed to build a cushion that width, 2.0m long in the direction of travel and 75mm high, with fixings included.
Speed cushions are the standard device where a full-width hump is not wanted: bus routes, emergency vehicle access routes and residential streets in council LATM schemes. The cushion only spans part of the lane, so cars have to slow for it while buses, fire appliances and other wide-track vehicles pass with their wheels either side. Rubber sets install in a few hours without asphalt or concrete works, and can be lifted and relocated if a scheme changes.

Choosing a width
On a public road the width is set by the road authority's design, following Austroads Guide to Traffic Management Part 8 and AS 1742.13. As a guide to what each range does:
1.2m to 1.9m — the conventional cushion widths. Cars ride over it; buses, fire appliances and larger trucks straddle it.
2.0m to 2.7m — catches most light vehicles including utes and vans. Fewer vehicles can straddle it.
3.0m to 3.6m — behaves much like a full-width hump on a single lane, for locations where every vehicle should slow.
Sizes outside the standard list can be made up from the same segments — contact us with the width required.
Standards and compliance
Speed cushions on public roads are covered by AS 1742.13:2023 Manual of uniform traffic control devices Part 13: Local area traffic management, with device geometry and layout guidance in the Austroads Guide to Traffic Management Part 8. This cushion is designed in accordance with those documents: 75mm high with 1:8 leading and trailing ramps and 1:4 side edges. In off-street car parks, AS 2890.1 applies.
Compliance of the installed device depends on placement, advance warning signage and pavement marking, which sit with the road authority or installer. AS 1742.13 requires speed hump warning signs and markings on public roads — see our road warning signs and line marking ranges.
What you get
Every set is built from three segment types: left and right corner segments (400mm) and 400mm and 300mm mid segments. Each set is two rows deep, giving the 2.0m travel length. The table below shows exactly what ships with each width.

Fixings are included with every set. Because the cushion is modular, a damaged segment can be replaced on its own rather than replacing the whole cushion.
Installation
Segments are laid out, joined with the supplied connectors and fixed to the pavement through the pre-formed fixing holes. Allow around 30 minutes for a typical set.
