A tourniquet is a medical device used to control severe bleeding by applying pressure to a limb, restricting blood flow. It is typically applied above the wound to stop life-threatening blood loss until professional medical help arrives.
How do I properly apply a tourniquet in an emergency?:
To apply a tourniquet, position it 2-3 inches above the bleeding site, tighten it until bleeding stops, and secure it in place. Make sure to note the time of application and avoid removing it until medical help is available.
What accessories are needed for tourniquets and how should they be maintained?:
Accessories for tourniquets include practice kits, instructional guides, and pressure bands. Maintain tourniquets by inspecting them for wear, cleaning after each use, and replacing any damaged or expired components to ensure readiness for emergencies.
